Sculpture
I create artwork based on contemporary issues regarding femininity, specifically: domesticity, traditional female roles and representation of the female body. Through an array of three-dimensional and performative media I analyze the place of women in modern culture while comparing many mundane aspects of female life to torture. Much of my art is deeply personal but the experiences from which I draw are not unique to me. This is important to my work because the personal becomes a symbol for a broader female experience. My goal as an artist is to continually question and challenge expectations, archaic ideals, and restraints in relation to femininity.
